Sony KDL-65W5100 - Sony's Best Interactive HDTV

By Edward McKellen

The Sony Bravia KDL-65W5100 may not have generated much fanfare, but it definitely has many great features, particularly its interactive features, which, along with its semi-affordable price, set it apart from and above other models in its size range.

To keep you updated on important events, the Sony Bravia KDL-65W5100 comes with the three basic Yahoo Widgets - Yahoo News, Yahoo Weather and Yahoo Finance. Yahoo News load the quickest of them all, but only displays a bit of information and not the entire story from various categories like Politics and Entertainment, without an option to read more, while Yahoo Weather, which displays the current weather and a five-day forecast for various cities, and Yahoo Finance, which allows you to import and keep track of stock information, take a few minutes to load. These Yahoo widgets can also be found on other models and even in other brands. However, the good thing about having them on the KDL-65W5100 is that you can place them wherever you want on the screen, not just at the bottom.

There is a Twitter widget, too, so you can see the most recent tweets, which are updated real-time. You can even post a new tweet on your account, provided you have the patience to use the virtual keyboard on the screen using the directional keys on your remote.

Do you like watching online videos on your computer? If you get the KDL-65W5100, you can watch High-definition videos from Amazon Video on Demand and your favorite videos right on your HDTV screen after just a few minutes of buffering. Indeed, you don't have to buy the Bravia Internet Video Link, which costs extra, since this Sony HDTV has built-in video streaming capability.

Other than Amazon Video on Demand, you can access videos from other providers like YouTube, CBS, The Minisode Network, Sports Illustrated, FEARnet, Blip.tv, Style.com and other video podcasts. You can even watch your favorite TV episodes and movies in full in the future with Netflix-on-Demand.

If you have video content stored on your other computers, you can access them, too, thanks to the enhanced DLNA capability of the KDL-65W5100. Of course, you can access your stored music files, too, without even leaving your seat, although you can simply listen to your favorite Internet Radio station with the push of a few buttons.

Finally, the KDL-65W5100 also has an interactive program guide, which means its list of television programs is regularly updated via your Internet connection for free, so you don't miss out on your favorite shows and movies on TV.

Indeed, the Sony Bravia KDL-65W5100 makes a great interactive HDTV and an excellent HDTV overall, with breathtaking picture quality, enough picture modes and presets, an energy-saving Eco Menu and enough connectivity options for all your needs. Don't be alarmed if you find only one HDMI input at the back. You will find three others on the side, along with the USB port and the PC input for convenience, especially for those who plan on mounting this stylish piece on the wall. - 33374
